Located in the northern part of Nièvre, a one and a half hour drive along the A77 from Paris, Cosne stretches on the east bank of the Loire, on the borders of 4 départements - Cher, Yonne, Loiret, Nièvre - and 2 regions - Burgundy and Centre.

Cosne boasts a lot of tourist, cultural, sports, as well as commercial and industrial activities. It is the most urbanized area in the Loire and Nohain District, where 19,000 people live. Every Sunday morning, its market, full of different colours and fragrances, attracts large numbers of buyers and strollers.

The Loire, on which boats sailed until the middle of the 19th century, is so unpredictable that it is said to be Europe's last wild major river. To discover it, use your feet, a bicycle, a canoe... or a railbike. While you are there, make sure you visit the Loire Museum.

Other sites are worth visiting, including the Postman Museum in Cosne, the Agricultural Machine Museum in Saint-Loup and the Bourgogne Nivernaise Peasant Museum in La Celle-sur-Loire. The vineyards, with their 'Coteaux du Giennois' AOC classification, the 'Crottin de Chavignol' AOC goat cheese, together with fine tableware rank high among Val de Loire's attractions.
